Cycling and Forts at Kelve, Shirgaon, Mahim and Satpaati — the Palghar Circuit

Five riders took off to discover a forgotten history on the west coast through small fishing villages. This expedition covers four forts that line the Palghar coast. And the best way to enjoy the countryside and the historical monuments is riding a cycle! One of the best cycling expeditions so far this year.

After a break of about a month, I was eager to get back on the cycle. I cycled along the Western Express Highway till Mira Road, then took the detour towards the shore and rode along the mangroves of Uttan, climbed up Uttan hill, then down to Gorai. I visited the Global Vipassana Center to admire the giant Stupa, then rode ahead to Manori, took the ferry across to Marve, rode till Madh, took another ferry to cross over to Versova and then returned home. A great way to start a Sunday!

Elephanta Caves on Elephanta Island is one of the well known tourist destinations around Mumbai.

However, I decided to visit the island to try something different – I took my mountain bike there… to my pleasant surprise, I found a wonderful cycling route that circles the island along the shore and at the end, climbs up the hill to the caves.

Then even better, there is a short but steep climb uphill to a pair of cannons… then the downhill ride was a completely unexpected bonus!

Paragliding – Jan 2013, a set on Flickr.

Our first paragliding course was an exciting adventure. Conducted by Nirvana Adventures, this was a three day course where we actually learned to do solo flights by the end of the course.
