Elephanta Caves on Elephanta Island is one of the well known tourist destinations around Mumbai.

However, I decided to visit the island to try something different – I took my mountain bike there… to my pleasant surprise, I found a wonderful cycling route that circles the island along the shore and at the end, climbs up the hill to the caves.

Then even better, there is a short but steep climb uphill to a pair of cannons… then the downhill ride was a completely unexpected bonus!

Biking to Bordi – Feb 2013, a set on Flickr.

We went on a bike trip to Dahanu and Bordi. Four of us took our respective Royal Enfield Bullets and headed out without any plans. We ended up seeing Dahanu Fort, Dahanu Bay and then the superb Bordi beach. We ended the tour with a heavy Gujarati Thali at Umbergaon before heading back to Mumbai.
